Sailing Away...
This is Joey on a shell collecting mission at Nasog Point (Panay island) a few days ago.
The second picture was taken on our trip to beautiful Carabao Island last week. Joe and I packed a picnic and took a day off from the crowds and noise in Boracay. It took us less than an hour to sail there from our place, and it was well worth it. The beach there was peaceful and tourist free. Hopefully next week we'll be going back with friends and staying for a night or two at a little resort we found there.

Tragic!

The first image is of a rainbow over Banyugan (Punta Bunga) beach last December. The second is of the same beach now. This beautiful forest is being razed to the ground to make way for yet another big hotel complex. It makes me so sad to see what is happening to our lovely island.

UPDATE:

These recent pictures illustrate the continued destruction of this once beautiful site, with heavy machinery gouging chunks out of the cliffside. This, it seems, is the future for Boracay.

Here's some more Boracay pics - the guys jamming on the beach a couple of weeks ago. There's nothing like the atmosphere when friends get together with bongo drums under a full moon!
We've said goodbye to quite a few friends over the last couple of weeks, and all is quiet at the bar. That's Boracay - one minute there seems to be too much going on, the next there's too little!
We are now bracing ourselves for the Easter crowds, when the island is infested with noisy party people. Thankfully it's still quite peaceful where we live, but it's always a relief when they all go home. As for living in paradise, my roof is leaking and I actually fell through the wooden floor a few days ago, as the beams under the floor were all rotten (termite attack) and susequently ended up with the most enormous purple bruise on my thigh. Oh the joys of living in a bamboo house....
